“Aegean Dermatology Days” is the traditional annual meeting of the Dermatovenereology Association of Turkey, which is a member of ILDS. Every year one of the dermatovenereology departments of the universities of the Aegean region of Turkey organizes this popular meeting under the patronage of Dermatovenereology Association of Turkey since 2005. This year, between 1-5 May, 2019, 14th congress will be held by the Department of Dermatovenereology of Manisa Celal Bayar University at Hilton Bodrum Türkbükü Hotel Resort & Spa in Bodrum-Turkey.
We are proud and excited to actualize our 14th congress in the ancient city of Halicarnassus Which is at present time known as Bodrum, Turkey. One of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, namely the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus exists in this beautiful city. This was a large and ornate mausoleum, built both to honor and hold the remains of Mausolus of Caria. When Mausolus died in 353 BC, his wife Artemisia ordered the construction of this vast structure in their capital city, Halicarnassus. Ultimately, both Mausolus and Artemisia were buried inside. At the top of the tomb there Was a sculpture, which depicted Mausolus and Artemisia in a chariot being pulled by four massive horses. The Mausoleum, considered one of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World, retained its grandeur for nearly 1,800 years, until earthguakes in the 15th century destroyed part of the structure. Eventually, neariy all of the stone was taken away to be used in nearby building projects, particularly for a Crusader fortress held by the Knights of St. John. Today, the British Museum in London contains statues and relief slabs from the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus.
The most important highlight of this year’s congress is the acceptance of our application for 2019 International Society of Dermatology (ISD) Regional Meeting Award, so that 14th Aegean Dermatology Days will be co-supported by ISD. We are very proud of being qualified to be listed among the five national congresses around the world to receive support from the ISD in 2019 and is listed as “ISD Regional Meeting” on ISD’s Calendar of Events for 2019 (www.intsocderm.org). We know that ISD’s mission is to facilitate the exchange of information among the global community of dermatologists. By co-sponsoring various national and regional dermatological meetings, the ISD intends to increase the awareness of ISD among dermatologists worldwide and to highlight the national and regional dermatological communities. We will actively promote the ISD at our meeting, and want to ensure that all attendees receive membership information. We hope that our congress will increase the awareness of ISD not only among our colleagues, but also among dermatologists worldwide, and highlight the “Aegean Dermatology Days”.
We aim to actualise a congress that will contribute to the post-graduate training of dermatologists not only with its rich scientific content and relevant courses, but also with interactive discussion sessions. Our specially chosen and invited speakers, both from our country and foreign countries, will offer presentations on meticulously selected topics utilising the latest advancements. We kindly invite you to participate to our congress not only to attend rich scientific sessions, but also to feel yourself in the ancient times in ancient Halicarnasus in the most beautiful spring time dressed up with colourful bougainvilleas.
